'End of the Year Wrap-up' 2001

Time flies! Unbelievable how quickly this year passed by, and yet again we have December. 2001—let's see what I have to report about my artistic and personal endeavors and experiences. It was a busy year with much travelling as always and quite a number of exhibitions.

From the beginning of the year until late February I worked in California on the completion of several canvases for an upcoming show in Austria. After travelling to Europe, I stayed in Vienna until April, exhibiting together with Austrian artist Alexander Karner at the Schieberkammer, a historic waterworks building in the Austrian capital.

My next stop was Hong Kong, in Mid-May, for my exhibition A Foreign Perspective at the Montblanc Gallery. After that came a two-months stay in Manila, accumulating in an exhibition titled Progression. Next, a well-deserved vacation to Lisbon. Then, back to work, another show in August at the Deutsche Bank 24 in Munich. Finally, at the end of the year, one last exhibition (in my absence) for the Grand Opening of Billy King's new entertainment complex at Fort Bonifacio in Manila.

That's all, to keep it short!

And in between, I developed a change of style. The clear lines and strong colors got replaced by softer brushstrokes which still weave together a figurative image; but elements of abstract expression are more and more evident. In my recent paintings, the color scheme is more subtle and homogeneous, plus I experimented with different medias such as sand and sculpting clay to emphasize 3-dimensionality on a limited 2-dimensional canvas.

My love and excitement for the human body as my sole painting subject are as intense as ever— see for yourself if you get inspired by my new works!

So far so good, many new plans for 2002, I'll keep you updated!

Well, at the end of the year I am now in Munich hoping for a white Christmas...

My best wishes to all of you for a peaceful holiday season and a happy New Year!
